Children’s Museum New Outdoor Learning Garden Groundbreaking Next Week Wednesday, October 22, 2014 | 12:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 12 noon, the Children’s Museum of Brownsville will hold a groundbreaking for its new outdoor exhibit space the Outdoor Learning Garden. “The Museum has been working on this project for over a year and with the support of community partners we are now ready to break ground”, said Felipe Pena, Executive Director at the Children’s Museum of Brownsville.

The Children’s Museum will expand at the front of the building into the plaza, between the Museum and the Ringgold Civic Pavilion. The newly enclosed area adds much needed space and resources for the Children’s Museum visitors.

The Outdoor Learning Garden will include an acrylic paint wall, musical instruments and gardening area for use during special workshops. In addition, Brownsville Public Utilities Board has committed to add an exhibit that will teach children about the process of Resaca Restoration, a currently ongoing project for the City of Brownsville. The exhibit will depict the water processing system Genesis to children in a hands-on, fun manner. Genesis is a dewatering system that dredges Brownsville’s Resacas and filters out debris, returning clean water to the Resaca. The Outdoor Learning Garden will add over 3,000 square feet of outdoor exhibit space. Several partners have made this project possible, including Brownsville Public Utilities Board, Serafy Foundation, Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, SSP Design, Raul Tijerina Jr. Foundation, Brownsville Community Foundation, Target Community Grant, City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department, Brownsville Foundation for Health and Education, Teens Helping Kids, and the support of our local community: parents, educators and those who attend our fundraisers.
The Children’s Museum invites the community at large and the Media to join us as we break ground for the newest addition to our Museum, the Outdoor Learning Garden.
